Based in Manchester, we improve the health of babies and children in the UK by providing hospitals with equipment not available from limited NHS resources.
Since 1985 we have raised over £25 million to fund neo natal and paediatric medical equipment, sensory and play facilities in hospitals, specialised equipment for disabled children, and mental health resources. Last year our projects had a positive impact on the health of 120,882 young people.
Our story
The charity was set up in 1985 by a couple after their little girl became seriously ill with meningitis and was treated at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital in Manchester, where she made a full recovery. At the time the hospital was unable to afford some vital items of equipment. To show their gratitude to the hospital that saved their daughter’s life, the couple began fundraising for the equipment.
What we do
We now work with medical staff, play therapists, community nurses and special schools throughout the UK to provide medical equipment and to improve the environment in hospitals. We also fund resources for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to ensure they are fully equipped to support children with mental health issues.
Our trustees
MedEquip4Kids is governed by a board of trustees who volunteer their time to take overall responsibility for the running and development of the charity.
Our team
From our office in Manchester, MedEquip4Kids is operated on a day-to-day basis by a small team of five full-time and four part-time staff.
Our partnerships
Our income is generated from corporate partnerships, grants from trusts and foundations, events, and donations from regular givers and the community. Many parents whose children received lifesaving treatment using equipment funded by the charity have gone on to volunteer or fundraise for us.
