Earlier this year we were delighted to welcome a new member of staff, Daire Comac Gilhooly, who was appointed to our small team as a Trusts Fundraiser. Daire’s role is applying for grants from charitable trusts and foundations to help fund medical equipment and resources for hospitals, special schools and mental health services, and in just a short time he has already had some notable successes. He is also helping us to write content for social media, newsletters, appeals and the website.

We asked Daire to introduce himself in his own words. He says:

“My journey has been further than most – growing up on the streets of Belfast is a world away from the bustling centre of Manchester. However, being intent on pursuing my dreams has led me to MedEquip4Kids. The story begins on a flight to England, as I ventured into the unknown to further pursue my studies, where I attended the University of Liverpool, taking politics at an undergraduate level. However, my sights remained firmly set on the charity sector.”

“Fortunately, I was given my first opportunity at the Prince’s Trust. Upon completion of my placement, my endeavours had been vindicated and my desires strengthened. I was determined to stay in fundraising due to the value garnered from my time at the Prince’s Trust. MedEquip4Kids subsequently offered me a position, allowing me to further develop my skills to become a successful fundraiser.

“I view my place here as the accomplishment of a long and arduous journey to enter the charity sector. I therefore can only thank the staff for allowing me to do so. It is truly a privilege to fundraise for such a worthy cause.”

“The new beds for parents have had such a positive impact on the wellbeing of our children knowing their parent or carer is close by. But also for the parent being able to sleep comfortably next to their child has made such a difference to how they have responded to staff during difficult times on the ward. The difference a good night’s sleep makes is priceless.”
