We have agreed to work with the Radiology Department at Furness General Hospital to provide lighting equipment to reduce stress and anxiety in children undergoing X-rays.
Hospitals can be frightening places for children. When a child is anxious or distressed, it is harder for medical staff to treat them, and can affect the child’s health and ability to recover.
Distraction therapy helps children to cope with uncomfortable procedures. This can be achieved by using lighting equipment to focus their minds elsewhere. The hospital has asked for our help to provide a ceiling projector and other coloured lighting in the Radiology Department to calm and distract children undergoing X-rays. The X-ray department deals with a high volume of children through the Emergency Department and from the Children’s Ward. A number of these children need lengthy full skeletal surveys to check for non-accidental injury and will particularly benefit from this calming environment.
The equipment will benefit over 1,500 children each year.
The cost of funding this project is £631.80
