We’re thrilled to report that Ruben and Elena Evans-Guillen have received a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister’s Office. The daily award recognises outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their community.

Ruben and Elena, aged 9, are twins from Warrington who have ADHD and have channeled their amazing energy into raising funds to support the NHS.  Last year the pair took part in the Superhero Winter Wonder Wheels Challenge and helped MedEquip4Kids to provide a lung suction machine for ISCAN Tameside and Glossop, where it will be used to care for children with disabilities and health conditions.

This year the twins have embarked on a new local campaign, “Be a Good Egg for the NHS,” raising funds for MedEquip4Kids to provide medical equipment at the Nest Birth Centre in Warrington General Hospital.  You can find out more and support their campaign here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/goodegg4nhs

We are very proud of the twins’ achievements on behalf of other young people. We’d also like to say a special thank you to their dad Mark, who has been so supportive of our charity.

“Infections of the central nervous system need urgent and appropriate treatment. Most laboratory methods can take from 24 to 48 hours for diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and three to seven days for diagnosis of viral meningitis or encephalitis. The new equipment will mean we can get results of these tests in around an hour. We’ll be able to inform the clinicians of a positive result, allowing targeted therapy and reassurance to the patients and families. Just as important is the reporting of negative results, which may enable treatment withdrawal and possibly a shorter hospital stay.”
