Thanks so much to everyone who came along to the MedEquip4Kids Quays Duck Race at Salford Quays on Good Friday to watch our bright yellow ducks take to the water once more! Despite a rainy start, the day turned out to be a great success and raised much-needed funds for children in hospital.

Highlights of the day included the corporate duck race for the big ducks sponsored and decorated by local businesses. The winner was the lovely “Beakyonce”, sponsored by Orega, who sailed past the others to claim first place.

The community duck race took place shortly afterwards with hundreds of ducklings taking part. The winning duck belonged to Casey Corbett, age 7, who took home the prize of a brand-new tablet. Thanks in particular to the fire brigade who were on hand again to give our ducks a starting boost along the quays.

Congratulations also to Mya Cunliffe, age 4, from Wardley CE Primary School, who won the duck colouring competition and had her beautiful design featured on one of our ducks.

We’re really grateful to everyone who helped make the Quays Duck Race such a success and to the volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the event ran smoothly, including Martin Glarvey, our compere the day. Looking forward to seeing you  next Easter!

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
