Pennine Acute - Breastpump loan service (028)
Pennine Acute NHS Trust employs an Infant Feeding Co-ordinator to ensure that all women are supported if they have chosen to breastfeed. Across the four hospitals within the Trust, 11,000 women and their babies are seen by the IFC, or by health visitors or midwives. The Trust runs a Tongue Tie clinic to help mothers whose babies suffer from this condition, and the team also supports mothers suffering from other problems that affect breastfeeding, such as the mother or baby needing hospital care, cleft palate or thrush and mastitis.
The Infant Feeding Co-ordinator for Pennine has asked for our help to set up a Pump Loan service, to be monitored and managed by her and her team. Pumps will be given to mothers with the greatest medical need, such as if their baby is on the Neonatal unit, or cannot feed for another reason. This will be backed up where necessary with support for the mother to enable her to begin to feed naturally. These pumps are consistent with the ones in use in the hospitals, and they comply with all infection control requirements.
