The new Children’s Clinic at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is due to open in 2010. The new design will create a friendly environment for children visiting the hospital. Making a hospital visit a pleasurable experience helps children to be relaxed and receptive. For children who need repeated care over months or years it can make a significant difference to the success of treatment.
To make the outpatient experience more exciting and pleasurable there will be a pirate theme throughout the unit. This will include a Nurses’ Station in the shape of a Galleon, to add to the child-friendly environment. The counter is very low, to allow children to talk to staff directly, and feel more included in their care.
The new design for the Children’s Clinic will include a multisensory room. This will be predominantly for use by children with special needs, but also for other children who may benefit. For children with profound disabilities, these rooms can calm and allow medical professionals to carry out procedures. They are of particular benefit to those with Autism and children with learning difficulties.
Pirate's Desk: £6,000.00 (this is the difference in cost between a standard desk, which would be funded by the NHS, and the Galleon desk)
Multisensory Room: £10,982.48
