Firwood School - Walking Frame (119)
Firwood is a special secondary school in Bolton for young people aged 11-19 with severe learning difficulties. MedEquip4Kids have agreed to support Firwood by promoting the independence of the students. We would like support to purchase a Mulholland Walkabout. A walkabout is a specialist walking frame that supports children who otherwise cannot stand unaided. It allows the child to be move about within the school independently, and encourages strength in muscles that otherwise are not used. The Walkabout is hands-free and it is open in the front. The individual can use their hands to interact with their environment, as well as having minimal barriers between themselves and their world. Research has shown that self-initiated exploration and interaction of the environment is made more possible with equipment like the Walkabout. This is a very important component in social and cognitive development. The total cost of this project is £2905.00
Your support would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: We purchased the walking frame in July 2009 thanks to donations from charitable trusts.
