Cheadle Community Team - Suction Pump (084)
Cheadle Hospital Community Nursing Team operate a Children’s Airway Support Team, supporting children with a range of health needs to continue their day-to-day lives supported by their medical team and families.
Children who need a tracheotomy (an airway inserted into the windpipe) need constant access to a suction pump to remove build-up of saliva. At present Staffordshire PCT offers a large, mains powered machine to its patients, but newer, smaller models are now on the market which offer much more freedom and flexibility to children who need these machines.
We have pledged to provide a suction machine for use by children in Cheadle. The new machine is more discreet, quieter and more compact than the machines the NHS currently offer. Being battery operated and portable makes them far more suitable for children, who may be attending main stream schools or play groups in the community.
This machine will be used by children aged one to eight in the Staffordshire area, and will make a tremendous difference to the freedom and opportunities of children with severe health conditions.
This pump will cost £385.00 including a carry bag. As a charity we don’t pay VAT on medical items.
