Rochdale Infirmary - Oxygen Saturation Monitors (088)
The Children’s Unit at Rochdale Infirmary treats children from birth to age 16 with a range of medical and surgical needs. The unit have asked us to provide Oxygen Saturation Monitors, which will enable medical staff to accurately assess the pulse rate and oxygen saturation of a patient. Compared to the equipment currently in use, this new equipment can provide a much more reliable reading when a patient is in distress, so is therefore ideal for use on babies and small children.
It is necessary to take accurate readings of oxygen in the blood for a range of breathing disorders and infections. In particular this equipment is vital for assessing children with asthma and bronchitis, to ensure enough oxygen is being absorbed by the lungs.
This particular piece of equipment is portable and compatible with that used in the regional specialist centres, so in the event of a child requiring transfer to one of the specialist hospitals outside the area this monitor can be transported with them.
The Oxygen Saturation Monitors cost £600.00 each, and we have agreed to provide two to replace out-dated equipment currently in use on the ward. In total we are seeking £1,200 to improve the equipment available in Rochdale. UPDATE: This equipment was ordered March 2009
